A new documentary will tell the story of the punk and hardcore scene in Washington, D.C., in the United States. Titled Punk the Capital: Building a Sound Movement , the film premieres on May 14th and will be released on DVD/Blu-ray on Record Store Day, June 8th.

The 88-minute documentary features several names from the scene that took place between 1976-1983, such as Bad Brains, Minor Threat, Void, Rites of Spring , and more. Interviewees include HR (Bad Brains), Ian MacKaye (Minor Threat, Fugazi), Henry Rollins (Black Flag), Jello Biafra (Dead Kennedys), and others.

Punk the Capital is the first feature film to tell the story of the Washington scene and its DIY ("Do It Yourself") movement. The film aims to highlight the city's importance in this movement.

The film is produced and directed by James June Schneider, Paul Bishow , and Sam Lavine . The trio revealed that they had over seven hours (!) of footage, and some of the edited parts will be included in the DVD version.
