The Minas Gerais-based melodic death metal band, New Democracy The Plague on August 12th. The album is a concept record set in ancient Egyptian civilization.
Self-confessed admirers of the rich Egyptian culture, New Democracy presents in their new album compositions loaded with the weight and lethality of death metal, combined with the feeling and grandeur of the melodies and arrangements of heavy and melodic metal, resulting in a conceptual work to be appreciated in its entirety, paying attention to the full range of details and with the care that the band took in presenting a memorable work for their new and old fans.
Regarding the album's release, vocalist and guitarist Rafael Lourenço commented: “ The Plague is an album we've been working on for almost 3 years, and even knowing the songs for all this time, we're still impressed. It's a very mature album and much more 'lucid' than the previous ones. You could say that on this album the band really found itself within its style.”
"It's also worth remembering that this is our first album that had the supervision of a producer, so we went through all the processes carefully. The quality of the album is far beyond what we thought. I'm passing it on to a foreign band without feeling a 'step' in sound, and that makes me very proud. In short, I'm proud of this incredible work and happy to finally present it to the public.".
The Plague was produced by Tim Alan Wagner of Studio Rock, and mixed and mastered by Thiago Okamura . The photographs for the release were taken by Breenda Rabello, and the cover art was created by Wagner Sales.
New Democracy was formed in 2012 in the city of Varginha, Minas Gerais, with the aim of creating original music and conveying its message through a sound that is both aggressive and melodic, featuring guitar riffs and dissonant melodies, a balanced and heavy bass, and drums that oscillate between speed and groove.
The band's current lineup consists of vocalist and guitarist Rafael Lourenço, guitarist Mozart Santos , bassist Wellington Rodrigues , who also provides backing vocals, keyboardist Vinícius Borges , and drummer Alexandre Madeira .
Their main influences are quite distinct and guide the direction of New Democracy, ranging from bands like Pantera, Black Label Society, Carcass, Death, Gojira, Lamb Of God, Children Of Bodom, Behemoth, Dimmu Borgir , as well as melodic metal bands like Helloween, Kamelot, Angra , among others.
