It's all ready! In a recent interview with Lazer 103.3 (via Blabbermouth , Papa Roach vocalist Jacoby Shaddix stated that the band's new album is finished and in the mastering process. Despite commenting in February that Papa Roach didn't plan to release a new album before 2022 , the final result of the project may have changed the band members' mindset.
Jacoby was very enthusiastic about the material he has in hand, declaring that this is "the best album Papa Roach has ever written and recorded" throughout their career. "If we ever made a record that could be nominated for a Grammy , this is it," he stated. "It breaks down barriers and walls, it's very inspiring."
Jacoby also said that the band decided to “go all in” and take risks in the recording process of the new project, which seems to have yielded good results. “Since the beginning of our career, we’ve been trying to write a song that would be both a lead single and the opening track for the album and the show – one of those songs that can be all of that – and it never worked out. Now, we’ve finally done it,” the singer revealed. “Just wait and see. It’s like a mix of the curtain falling, confetti cannons, explosions, glitter flying in the sky – all of that together.”
Despite the optimism, the songwriting process for Papa Roach's new album wasn't an easy task for Jacoby Shaddix. The musician celebrated nine years of alcohol sobriety in February, but admitted he went through a turbulent period where he started smoking marijuana regularly. “I was very anxious and stressed and [smoking] started messing with me a lot, to be honest – it made me feel pretty bad. So I decided I needed to get sober and clean.”
Previously, Jacoby had stated that he didn't drink, but that constant marijuana use could have led to this. "Part of the process of making this record was losing myself a little bit," he confessed now. "But that led me to some terrifying and very brutally honest moments in my life. Sometimes that kind of 'tortured self' helps create good art, but that doesn't mean I thought all of that through the art; I was just losing control for a moment."
