Prika Amaral revealed that she feels responsible for maintaining the female lineup of Nervosa in an interview with IbagensCast last Friday, the 28th. The group has undergone numerous and drastic lineup changes in recent years.
“When Nervosa had its first breakup and Fernanda Lira and Luana Dametto left the band, I received many messages saying: 'Don't let Nervosa die, you inspire us.' I always replied that it wasn't going to end. Because it was a delicate situation, people didn't believe it. How would it survive? When we came back, everyone thought it was great. I feel responsible for maintaining Nervosa's all-female lineup,” said the vocalist and guitarist (transcription via Whiplash ).
“I understand that it’s one of the biggest platforms for women in the metal scene. So, that’s a sensitive point for me. Everyone wants to be a part of it, you know? But I’m afraid they’ll use Nervosa as a stepping stone. Like, they join Nervosa, stay for a year, then leave to pursue a career. They become well-known and then leave. It becomes difficult to trust that the person is really there to build something with you.”
In 2020, Fernanda Lira announced her departure from the band , stating that it was the "most difficult decision of her life ." Luana Dametto, in turn, announced her departure a few hours later . At the time, Prika said she "already expected" the separation and praised the success of Crypta , a project by the two former members.
Nervosa then came to be composed, in addition to Amaral, of Eleni Nota , Diva Satânica and Mia Wallace . In 2022, Eleni decided to focus on her health and was replaced by Nanu Villalba , who remained in the group for only four months . Mia soon after left the tour due to family problems and was replaced by Helena Kotina .
Recently, it was Diva Satânica's turn to leave the band , citing "lack of agreement between both parties" .
Still in conversation with IbagensCast , Prika said that she didn't understand Diva's statement: “I didn't want to invest in another person who would give up like what happened. For whatever reason. For me, it was quite complicated. I still have very mixed feelings about her. I invested a lot in her and gave her a lot of freedom. She participated in all the band's decisions” (transcription via Whiplash ).
“I had all her approvals. Everything was in order and documented. I don't know why she declared online that she wasn't involved in the band's decisions. I really don't know what decisions she's talking about. If there was something she disagreed with, she should have talked to me. To me, it's very strange to find out about this kind of thing online. I didn't think it was very nice. I didn't want to go through that again. That's why I decided to take responsibility.”
Currently, Nervosa features Prika Amaral, Helena Kotina, Mia Wallace, Michaela Naydenova , and Hel Pyre .
