“My wife Daryl and I made this video together so you can reflect,” wrote Neil Young. “Help the students, help your children. They want protection.”
Neil Young and his wife Daryl Hannah have created a new video for the classic 1970 song "Ohio." The video's goal is to "raise awareness about gun control laws."
The video shows images of the Kent State massacre from the 1970s and recent school shootings. It ends with a group of young people shouting "no more guns".
"Without real laws protecting us from guns, and with politicians supporting the National Rifle Association of America because the association supports them financially, we are not well represented," Young wrote on his official website.
“Today’s students are courageous, demanding change in violent times. We stand with them. They are us. We are them. This has been going on for far too long. My wife Daryl and I made this video together for you to reflect on. Help the students. Help your children. They want protection. No more guns.”
Neil Young wrote "Ohio" days after the Kent State massacre in 1970. "It was a pivotal moment in our history," he wrote on the website. "It was a pivotal moment for me."
