Neil Peart , the drummer and lyricist for Rush , died last Tuesday, the 7th, in Santa Monica, California, at the age of 67.
Peart had been battling brain cancer for the past three years, according to family spokesman Elliott Mintz.
Considered one of the best drummers of all time, Neil Peart joined Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson in 1974 to make history with Rush.
His style has always been admired by drumming geniuses like Stewart Copeland of The Police , Mike Portnoy , and many others.
Rush's last show was in 2015, and since then Neil Peart has spent his time with his wife Carrie Nuttal and their daughter Olivia.
Updated (6:52 PM): In a statement on social media, Lee and Lifeson called Peart a “friend, soul brother, and bandmate for over 45 years.” They also said the drummer was “incredibly brave” in his battle with cancer. “We ask that friends, fans, and the media understand and respect the family’s needs, privacy, and peace during this extremely painful and difficult time.” The statement concludes: “Those who wish to express their condolences may choose a cancer research group and make a donation in Neil Peart’s name. Rest in peace, brother.”
