Neil Carter, from UFO: "I never quite understood Ozzy's appeal"

The musician said he found the public's adoration for Ozzy Osbourne during his solo career "very strange."

In a recent interview for the Rock Interview Series UFO keyboardist and guitarist Neil Carter admitted he was never a big fan of Ozzy Osbourne as a singer and suggested that his solo career would only have been successful thanks to his connections.

Carter had the opportunity to share the stage with Ozzy during his solo career, and said he found the audience's passionate reaction to the singer "very strange." "I was never a big fan of Ozzy's voice. I like Ozzy himself, he's a pretty funny guy, but watching that band on stage with Tommy Aldridge , Rudy Sarzo , and then you have Don [ Airey ] sitting in the tower – that was really cool to watch," he commented.

“But I have to admit, I used to watch the audience and think there were 19 or 20 thousand people going crazy, watching Ozzy stomp on the stage. It was very strange. I never quite understood Ozzy's appeal, but people love him.”

“They really think he’s the best thing in the world, but he’s always had very good people working with him. If it were just Ozzy alone, the story would be different. He had great songwriters with him and people like Bob Daisley , with whom I worked for a long time, writing lyrics.”

"That band was spectacular, the band with Randy [ Rhodes ] , Rudy Sarzo and Tommy Aldridge. It was incredible to watch," he concluded.
