Journey guitarist Neal Schon has spoken out about the band's performance at Rock in Rio on September 15th. The band's performance received much criticism for technical problems and, especially, for the performance of vocalist Arnel Pineda
On his Facebook profile, the guitarist posted a video showing the band being cheered by the audience after the end of their show at the festival.
Schon stated, [ via Igor Miranda ], that impositions made by the team of Avenged Sevenfold , the headliner of the night, caused the band's performance to be compromised.
“This video is from Rio, although we discovered much later that we were extremely limited by Avenged Sevenfold — meaning almost no sound gets out of the PA (speaker system) to the audience. It’s a shitty setup. Take a look at the audience. They loved it. The rest is manufactured garbage,” he said.
The guitarist was asked why the band wasn't the main attraction that day, given that Journey sold more albums than Evanescence and Avenged Sevenfold. He simply stated that the reason was "politics."
Arnel Pineda acknowledges mistakes.
On his social media, Pineda simply stated that the show "hadn't been perfect," mainly due to his performance. The Filipino singer had many problems with his pitch, caused by complications with his in-ear monitors, which generated significant criticism of his performance.
“#RockInRio2024 #YouAreAllSoBeautiful #YourNoiseIsIncredible #LoudAndProud #WhatADream #WeWeren'tPerfect, especially me, but you all rocked alongside us, with all your might, and poured all your love into us without hesitation… I hope my first time with you won't be the last… Journey and I miss you so much. #LongLiveBrazil #LongLiveRockInRio2024,” wrote Pineda.
