Formed in 2023 in São Paulo, Labatut features João Teixeira on drums, João Guimarães on guitar and vocals, João Serafim on guitar, and Marcela Gonçalves on bass. The group aims to bring a fusion of grunge and metal, drawing strong influences from Metallica (especially during the 1990s), Alice In Chains , Rage Against The Machine , and Sepultura .
With only 3 songs spread across 13 minutes, the band presents very mature riffs that reveal the sources from which the band admittedly draws. Ranging from fingerpicked passages typical of Metallica's best ballads to moments full of groove that transport us to the most remarkable era of 90s metal.
João Guimarães's raspy vocals are extremely versatile, ranging from melodic moments to extreme passages without losing the power and signature of his singing style. References to James Hetfield and Layne Staley are there, but mixed with a very particular timbre.
If you want to hear something full of originality, but that still shows its influences, with a dense, melodic and powerful sound, I recommend listening to the EP Apocalyptic City by the band Labatut and following them on social media to stay tuned for future shows!
