Nancy Wilson of Heart has released an extended version of the song " 4 Edward ," written in tribute to Eddie Van Halen . Titled "4 Edward With Love," the new version is just over two and a half minutes long and arrives shortly before the anniversary of the legendary guitarist's death on October 6th.
"4 Edward" is part of Nancy Wilson's first solo album, You and Me , released in May. On that occasion, Wilson told a touching story about the friendship between the members of Heart and the Van Halen from when the two bands met at festivals or performed together.
“I was the first person to give him a guitar,” he said. “When I was on tour with them [Van Halen] in the 80s, I said to him, ‘Why don’t you play guitar anymore?’ Then he replied, ‘I don’t have a guitar.’ So I said, ‘What do you mean you don’t have a guitar?’ Then I went to the case, took out an instrument, and gave it to him.”
“The next morning at the hotel, he called my room and played a beautiful piece of guitar for me. I was so moved and it was so beautiful, it was one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard. So, I tried to return the favor by making a beautiful tribute to him,” the guitarist concluded. Listen to “4 Edward With Love” now:
