His father passed away when he was only four years old.

In an interview with Eddie Trunk, Myles Kennedy spoke about his father's death and how it led him to compose his first solo album.

Kennedy recounts growing up in a religious family that followed Christianity and the teachings of a woman named Mary Baker Eddy, who in the 1800s believed that we shouldn't go to the doctor because God would heal us.

“Then my father got sick and didn’t want to go to the doctor. He died of appendicitis. One night it burst and we believe it led to gangrene (…) My mother woke up and he was dead.”

He reveals that he was only four years old when his father passed away and says that both of his grandmothers also died after refusing to go to the doctor.

Regarding his solo album, Year Of The Tiger , he says it was inspired by the loss of his father. "I discovered that 1974, the year he died, was the year of the tiger."

"The album will basically tell a story from beginning to end. It will talk about my father's death when I was a child and what happened to me, my mother, and my brother afterward – it will tell that story. It's a concept album from start to finish."

Year Of The Tiger will be released on March 9th by Napalm Records.
