Today we're going to talk about a song that speaks to how we're living our lives. The song is called "Trigger" by the Swedish band In Flames .
I really like the themes presented in the band's lyrics, especially in older songs, where they dealt with topics related to human feelings, talking about identity and existence, and with a lot of weight in the melody.
The lyrics were written by vocalist Anders Fridén , who is quite reserved but loves to express himself in the band's songs.
“Did we waste the spark or the aim? […]
I need to find…
Something to blame for the long time I lost.”
The song begins with a question, where "spark" can signify its essence, and "aim" its objective. When he says that we need to find something to blame, it's quite consistent with what many people do: instead of taking responsibility for something, it's easier to find someone to blame, whether it's something or someone else.
"I'm running from something I don't know what it is.
I'm searching for something, and which way do I go?
I'm trying to separate what is dream from what is real.
I'm running in circles."
This alludes to the bombardment of information and news we receive, which often leads to increased uncertainty and insecurity. We learn a lot about many things, and we don't know what to do with it all.
"From green to red, our days pass waiting
for some sign to tell us why
we are still dancing alone? "
From green to red, that is, from the beginning of our lives to the end of them...we spend our time waiting for some sign, perhaps something divine or someone to give us direction about our lives.
In the end, even surrounded by people, you still feel alone, or perhaps you need someone to take your hand and give you a "push."
"Gather some stars to shine for you
, and start today because there are few of them.
This is a sign of the times, my friend! "
Since most of the time we can't find that "sign," then we should gather some "stars," which can be a reference to some moments of happiness. Enjoy the little moments, and let them be a sign for you to enjoy your life.
