The MTV Unplugged project was one of the most prestigious on the channel

MTV Unplugged, a classic project of the channel, is expected to return next year. The last edition of the program took place in 2011, featuring Arnaldo Antunes .

The return of Acústico is part of the brand's repositioning in the country. MTV, which belonged to Abril, is now controlled by Viacom. The channel recently became known as "the hookup channel" due to the number of relationship reality shows it features.

Tiago Worcman, Vice President of Programming and Content for MTV Brazil and Latin America, shared the news with UOL. “The Unplugged format has always been an MTV product. This year we already did one in Mexico and one in Argentina. I think in Brazil, MTV needed this five-year period of development for the market to understand that Unplugged is interesting, both for record labels and for the audience. I believe we are now ready to bring this product back,” he said.

The channel's new proposal for MTV Unplugged is to transform it into a kind of documentary. It will show the event's creation process, behind-the-scenes footage, and the performance. "The idea is to have one artist, at most two per year. We understand that Unplugged is a special moment in an artist's career. They have to be, in some way, willing and prepared to present it in a way that's different from their usual musical trajectory."
