Mötley Crüe releases their third and final single, “Cancelled,” along with the EP of the same name. Produced by Bob Rock , the new work also includes the singles “Dogs of War” and a cover of the Beastie Boys' “Fight For Your Right.”
Cancelled is Mötley Crüe's most recent studio work since the acclaimed Saint of Los Angeles (2008) . The EP shows a renewal in the band with the arrival of John 5 , who replaces the group's former guitarist, Mick Mars .
On the Club Random podcast with Bill Maher last year, Tommy Lee said that the band felt inspired to write a song called "Cancelled" specifically because this had never happened to them before.
“There was an article that said, ‘How come Mötley Crüe never got cancelled?’ And we thought, ‘Damn, we have to write a song about this because we never got cancelled,’” the band’s drummer said on the Club Random . “We sneaked under the fence, wherever it was, where we got away with murder.”
Nikki Sixx , the band's frontman and bassist, took a defiant tone when discussing "Dogs of War" in a conversation with UCR :
“The funniest thing is that in our lives, in general, it seems like everyone has always tried to kill us, kill our careers, so it’s funny in the video that you can’t kill us,” Sixx said. “Even when we die, we end up sniffing our own ashes and coming back.”
Mötley Crüe has shows scheduled for the next few weeks at three of Los Angeles' most famous clubs: The Troubadour , Roxy Theater , and Whiskey A Go Go.
Cancelled is their first work, which is the result of an agreement between Mötley Crüe and the record label Big Machine Records.
