The first night of Mötley Crüe 's American tour was full of surprises – one planned by the band and the other a somewhat unpleasant unforeseen event.
On the evening of last Thursday, the 16th, the group played the first show of their highly anticipated tour with Def Leppard , Poison , and Joan Jett & The Blackhearts in the city of Atlanta. Around the middle of the set, the band called rapper and singer Machine Gun Kelly "The Dirt (Est. 1981)" live for the first time .
The track is a collaboration between the artist and Mötley Crüe, made for the soundtrack of the band's 2019 biopic, The Dirt , where Gun Kelly played drummer Tommy Lee , who was the subject of the second surprise of the night.
Unfortunately, Tommy Lee had to leave the rest of the show halfway through the performance and be replaced by Tommy Clufetos because he was feeling unwell due to a fracture he suffered about two weeks ago ( NME ).
According to what Tommy Lee himself reportedly said on stage before retiring, he broke four ribs, but he didn't reveal how. He only assured that the story of the injury isn't all that great. "I wish I had a badass story to tell, like me and Conor McGregor [professional fighter] got into a fight in a bar or something, but I don't," he lamented.
The drummer also revealed that medical advice advised him not to return to playing anytime soon, which he completely ignored. "I said, 'Are you guys crazy? I have a tour to do,'" he recounts.
