Motley Crue will begin celebrations for their 40-year career this weekend; learn more

“I don’t know where they all went. It went by in a flash,” says Nikki Sixx

40 years ago, on January 17, 1981, Nikki Sixx played for the first time with Tommy Lee on drums and vocalist and guitarist Greg Leon . Leon left, Mick Mars and Vince Neil joined, and Motley Crue .

To commemorate this historic date, the band will begin celebrations on the exact day of the anniversary, and fans are more than welcome to join the members, being able to sign the band's birthday card before Sunday on Facebook and return to the website on Sunday the 17th for more announcements.

“In 'Kickstart My Heart,' the lyrics say: 'When we started this band / All we needed was a laugh / Years gone by, I'd say we kicked some ass,'” Sixx recounts.

“It’s always been about great music and live shows for us. The fans have always been by our side. I don’t know where they all went all year. It’s gone by in a flash. What I can’t forget are the four decades of fans who considered themselves Crueheads from day one, supporting us. We are indebted to them and thank them from the bottom of our hearts. Happy 40th anniversary to us all,” he concludes.
