Robert Plant used his time at home during quarantine to organize his personal archive of memories, although he mentioned that he does not intend to make it public .
In a recent interview with Rolling Stone , the musician revealed that he found among his belongings from the past a letter written by his mother that could have changed the course of Led Zeppelin forever.
“I found a letter from my mother that I never opened from 1967,” said Robert. “I opened it in 2020 and it said, ‘Robert, you should come home. Sue is waiting for you and the accounting office would be happy to have you back.’ That brought tears to my eyes because I thought, ‘If I had opened that letter, I might have accepted.’”
Robert studied accounting in his teens, following his father's dream, but decided to drop out to pursue his dream of making music. Had he changed his mind, it's likely he would never have become the lead singer of Led Zeppelin.
“Just imagine!”, he added. “I’d be somewhere on the Welsh border hunting pheasants right now, wearing knee-high socks. But how ironic that I never opened [the letter]. It was written by my mother.”
Robert Plant wasn't the only big name in rock to almost choose a career that had nothing to do with music. Wikimetal has compiled a list of 7 artists who had jobs very far removed from the fame and stardom that came later. Check it out.
