Chuck Shute 's podcast , guitarist Kiko Loureiro recounted a story from his adolescence that likely proved decisive in his future as a rock star.
Loureiro recalled an episode that happened at school when he was 13 or 14 years old. According to him, the class was given an assignment to write a story, and his ended up being a "very aggressive" narrative about a type of metal festival with "loud guitars, mud, skulls, and blood."
“Obviously, the school principal asked my mother to meet with her and said, ‘Your son probably has some kind of problem, you need to take him to a psychologist,’” Kiko recounts. His mother, however, did something very different from taking him to a psychologist, even if it still had therapeutic effects: she bought her son a guitar.
“The acoustic guitar wasn’t enough,” the musician recounts. “My guitar teacher told my mother, ‘Buy an electric guitar. He likes rock now.’ And so I started taking lessons.”
Both the guitar and the lessons were clearly a good choice and yielded results, as Kiko Loureiro's resume includes big bands like Angra and, currently, Megadeth , who had a confirmed presence at Rock In Rio 2022 , but canceled their participation for "reasons beyond the festival's control".
