Legendary Bahian musician Moraes Moreira passed away today, the 13th, at the age of 72 in Rio de Janeiro, his press office confirmed. The cause of death was not revealed.
A key member of Novos Baianos , the musician reunited the band in 1997, releasing the live album Infinito Circular , which featured classics and unreleased songs from the group. Furthermore, ten years later, he published the book A História dos Novos Baianos e Outros Versos (The Story of Novos Baianos and Other Verses) , recounting the legendary group's trajectory, written in the style of cordel literature.
In recent years, he has been present at other shows reuniting Novos Baianos, in addition to solo performances, and some shows alongside his son.
Moreira posted on his Instagram on March 18th that he was in quarantine in Rio de Janeiro, and even wrote a poem about the coronavirus pandemic.
