A Montreal city council member named the city through a formal declaration in the city council chamber.
The city of Montreal, Canada, has been officially declared a "city of metal" by city councilor Craig Sauvé.
Last week, the councilman went to the city council carrying records by bands like Cryptopsy, Necrotic Mutation, and Despised Icon and managed to get approval for a formal declaration classifying Montreal as a "city of metal."
Speaking to the Montreal Gazette , Sauvé said it was a "huge thrill to have the opportunity to talk about this art form that I love so much." The proposal, although approved, was opposed by councilman Marvin Rotrand, who claimed to be concerned about the violence in some heavy metal music. The council spokesperson declined to comment.
I caught up with @CraigSauve today. He's just got a formal declaration through city council to have Montreal officially declared a metal city. I asked him what his mother thought about all this… apparently, she's not a fan. @Global_Montreal pic.twitter.com/iOy6MJqz2Q
