Montanee , an alternative rock band from Rio de Janeiro, has released Recalling Dreams , their new EP.
Featuring lyrics about dreams and relationships, the trio, formed by Felipe Areias (vocals and guitar), Teo Kligerman (drums) and Raphael Moraes (bass and guitar), has released this as their second album.
In an exclusive interview with Wikimetal , Areias discussed the new EP, future plans, achievements, and more!
Recalling Dreams began being written in 2019 and recorded the following year. “We have a lot of music saved up. Currently, we have at least three songs in our concert setlist that we haven't recorded yet. But there's still a lot more. We could have filled an album.”
The desire to make a full album exists, however, it wasn't possible this time because the EP was recorded in New York and the payment, in dollars, would be too high.
Compared to their previous work, this one has a key difference: they brought in producer Joey Hamilton to work with them.
"And after a while, we wanted to have a fresher and more renewed vision of our music, you know? So, we decided to look for someone who had work that we really liked and that would be a reference for us."
“Although we liked the results of the things we had done before, we had been playing those songs for a while now. So we ended up exhausting some things, and when he heard the song for the first or second time, he had ideas that we hadn't thought of. So it ended up being super positive,” he explained.
In terms of learning, he says he has acquired a lot from almost 10 years in the band. “I think I managed to learn a lot in terms of composition. Mainly by making and listening to other bands. I think I evolved a lot in that aspect. Also in production, producing and, like, seeing what works in a recording, what works live, having that discernment.”
When asked about his greatest achievement, he replied that it was, precisely, the release of Recalling Dreams .
"It ended up being a dream come true for me too, to be able to record outside of Brazil, to be able to record in an amazing studio, with tons of cool equipment, to be able to record with a super experienced person, who has Grammy nominations, etc."
"And especially the final result, you know? Being able to say that I participated in that and that I built that is a source of great pride for me. These are songs that if I found them on Spotify, I would like them, you know?"
