Monsters of Rock festival has announced the replacement band for Saxon in the 2023 lineup: the Swedish band Candlemass will perform at the event, which will take place on April 22nd at Allianz Parque in São Paulo.

Saxon's show at the festival was cancelled last week when the band announced guitarist Paul Quinn from the stage and cancelled all scheduled performances in South America.

This Thursday, less than a week later, the production company Mercury Concerts announced the addition of the Swedish band Candlemass to fill the vacancy left in the lineup.

Candlemass was founded in 1984 by bassist and composer Leif Edling and drummer Matz Ekström in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden. The band is one of the biggest icons of so-called doom metal, alongside bands like Pentagram, Saint Vitus , and Trouble . The genre received its name influenced by Candlemass' debut album, Epicus Doomicus Metallicus . Until 1990, they released five albums and undertook extensive and successful world tours. After two hiatuses – the first between 1994 and 1997 and then between 2002 and 2004 – they returned fully energized. Since then, they have toured extensively, released six studio albums, the latest being "Sweet Evil Sun" last year, as well as five live albums and four DVDs. The band consists of Leif Edling (bass), Mats "Mappe" Björkman (guitar), Lars Johansson (guitar), Jan Lindh (drums), and Johan Längqvist (vocals).

With the change, the seventh edition of Monsters of Rock in Brazil will feature KISS, Scorpions, Deep Purple, Helloween, Candlemass, Symphony X, and Doro. Tickets range from R$240 to R$2,500 and are available Eventim website .
