On September 2, 1995, at the Pacaembu Stadium in São Paulo, the second edition of Monsters of Rock in Brazil took place. 45,000 rock and metal fans were present, establishing it as one of the largest festivals of the genre ever held in the country up to that point.
The event was the first of its kind to have its own website. At the time, a $35,000 investment was made to make this possible. The online magazine featured photos, interviews, and also broadcast the shows live and allowed interaction between the artists and fans.
The lineup included Ozzy Osbourne , Alice Cooper , Megadeth , Faith No More , Paradise Lost , Therapy?, Clawfinger , Rata Blanca , and Virna Lisi – the only Brazilian act to perform.
Nick Holmes of Paradise Lost reminisced about his participation in Monsters of Rock 1995 in an interview with Wikimetal.
Paradise Lost performed in Brazil for the first time at the 1995 Monsters Of Rock festival, as part of their Draconian Times . In an interview with Wikimetal , vocalist Nick Holmes reminisced about their appearance .
“That was during the Ozzy Osbourne tour. We debuted at Monsters of Rock with Ozzy Osbourne, Alice Cooper, Faith No More… Yeah, it was amazing to be part of that tour, and being such big fans of Alice Cooper, especially, it was incredible to do. Such big shows, and, you know, there were so many people at the shows, we had never played in that kind of place, arenas, we had never done that before.”
The vocalist also mentioned how incredible it was to be at the festival with Ozzy Osbourne: “Pretty much nowhere, I don’t think we’d ever done that before. It was a really great tour, you can be sure of that. And again, it was incredible to tour with Ozzy, and I mean, but especially for us, Ozzy was a big name, so it was amazing that we did that.”
