The instrumental rock trio Macaco Bong Live Garage this Thursday, the 1st . With only 5 songs, but a total duration of 40 minutes, the band reinvented themselves in a work that features metal influences and intense riffs. The tracks on the album form an "endless" story, captivating the listener every second and taking them on a mesmerizing adventure.
For founder and guitarist Bruno Kayapy , the great difference in this album is the intensity of the trio's raw energy, which was preserved in the recording. It's not exactly a live album with a live audience, but the band sought to translate the same energy present in their performances:
“Over almost two decades as a band, I've started to better understand the feedback about how our live show is absurdly superior to the recordings you hear on records! The experience of being present at a Macaco Bong show is totally different from the experience of listening to a record. This is the band's first album that prioritizes this aspect of the live sound of our shows – hence the concept of 'Live'.”
This more raw and realistic recording approach also emerged in response to the pandemic period: the band's last album, Mondo Verbero (2021), had an adverse process, being recorded entirely remotely. In this new album, the band was finally able to get together again and record in person. In a garage transformed into a home music studio, Bruno Kayapy (guitar), Igor Carvalho (bass), and Marcus Fachini (drums) recorded the album's songs together, face to face.
With this in mind, the band also plans a follow-up to this album; in 2023, a second volume of Live Garage will be released. The sequel will consist of a selection of songs from the band's entire career catalog, re-recorded in the same format that prioritizes "live" energy, and will also include a new track.
Macaco Bong rarely repeats the same musical formula on their albums, and their compositions traverse numerous musical styles, to the point that it's practically impossible to label the band within any genre or niche of the music industry. In this new work, the band has reached a new level in terms of its musical approach of deconstructing conventional pop music arrangements. Even with 10 years in the business, the trio continues to innovate, and this new album is the greatest proof of that. While exploring new sounds, the band has managed to highlight its greatest strength on the album: the intense energy that comes from the dynamic between the group.
Live Garage is a release from the ForMusic Records .
