Many people don't realize it, but Monja Coen also likes rock n' roll. A Beatles , the Zen representative was at the beginning of her spiritual journey the week John Lennon was assassinated on December 8, 1980.

The Zen Buddhist nun spoke about her relationship with music in an interview on the program Provoca , on TV Cultura, while showing her favorites on her cell phone. “I’ve always had a greater preference for rock and roll, Os Mutantes are dear to me, then there’s Pink Floyd , Yes … There’s a list of them. I also like the Beatles,” she began.

Citing John Lennon's song "Imagine," Monja Coen recounted how she discovered the musician's death. "The day he died, I was doing my first seven-day, seven-night retreat," she recalled. "It was so incredible that, during the retreat, his songs kept playing in my head, and when the retreat ended, I learned that he had been killed. It was very powerful."

The experience was also recounted in the nun's autobiography, titled What I Learned from Silence , published in 2019. Watch the full program below.
