Mikkey Dee had over 20 years of experience with Motörhead when he became the official drummer for Scorpions . Part of the German band since 2017, the musician surprised everyone by revealing that performing with the group is more difficult.
In an interview with The Cassius Morris Show , Dee said that many people believe that working with the Scorpions is less demanding compared to his years with Lemmy .
“I myself have been a Scorpions fan since the 1970s, and when I play with them many people say, 'Oh, that's a piece of cake for you, are you sweating?'”, he commented (via Ultimate Guitar ). “I would reply: 'The show we do is harder than what I did with Motorhead'.”
The difficulty lies in each band's working style. “With Motorhead, if I was out of breath, I could yell at Lemmy and say, 'Hey, have a drink, Lem. I need to tune my snare drum,' something like that, and we could change the set on the spot,” he explained. “With Scorpions , it's not like that. Each set is almost timed, the same duration, and it's a very, very difficult set for me in certain parts.”

According to the drummer's description, the show starts heavy with a 1970s medley and slows down with an acoustic section and "Wind of Change." After that, however, Mikkey Dee has little time for breaks. "I play 45 minutes straight without taking a sip of water because we go straight into the drum solo, into 'Blackout,' into 'Big City Nights,' there's not even room to breathe," he continued.
“This set is very, very difficult to play and requires me to be physically fit for it, and I play very heavy. I'm hitting harder on the drums, so it's a tough set,” the Swede concluded.
