Mikkey Dee recalled his last conversation with his late Motorhead bandmate Lemmy . During an interview on the Waste Some Time With Jason Green , Dee recounts that the last time he saw the Motorhead vocalist was two weeks before his death.
“We played the last show on December 11th [2015] in Berlin and he passed away about two weeks later. And I'll tell you, the guy worked until the end. Phil [ Campbell , Motorhead guitarist] and I were trying to convince him not to go ahead with the second part of the European tour after Christmas. But he didn't want to give up,” Dee said (via Blabbermouth ).
The drummer went on to say that he advised Phil to let Lemmy decide what was best for him and that if he didn't want to give up the tour, they couldn't force him. Sadly, Lemmy passed away shortly after the meeting, in the middle of the tour.
“I spoke to him right after that show,” he recalls, “I went to his dressing room and said, ‘Okay, let’s go back to Los Angeles and decide which other two songs from Bad Magic you want to play’ (…) And then he said, ‘Okay, I’ll see about that’ (…) We were going to meet after Christmas to discuss the matter.”
Dee says that was the last time he spoke to Lemmy, because after that everyone went back to their homes to enjoy Christmas and New Year's, but the vocalist ended up passing away on December 28th of that year.
The drummer said during the interview that he believed Lemmy took too long to seek medical attention, but the vocalist's situation was complicated and it wasn't possible to "save" Lemmy. The cause of death was given as prostate cancer that caused cardiac arrest. An examination also indicated that the vocalist suffered from terminal brain and neck cancer.
