Good news: nu metal is back, and Mike Shinoda . During an interview with Kerrang! Radio , the musician reflected on the genre and its fluidity.

“Honestly, I’ve lived through countless complaints of ‘Such and such is dead, such and such is tacky.’ And it goes in circles,” he says. “Nu metal went from being the greatest thing on the planet to the tackiest thing on the planet and then back to the coolest thing again.”

He continued: “What I mean is that these things are normal and we have a new generation of artists – not just rappers – but artists in general who are injecting a lot of rock and other styles into their music. It’s exciting – I don’t hate it.” To give examples, Mike cited names like Iann Dior, 24KGoldn, Post Malone – whom he called a “rock star” – and Trippie Redd .

Shinoda also recalled that Linkin Park was called a "hybrid theory" long before their debut album bore that name: "None of us tried to claim that we were the ones who broke the boundaries between genres, but we played a role in breaking the boundaries between genres."
