Mike Portnoy left Dream Theater in 2010.
Mike Portnoy, former drummer for Dream Theater and currently playing in The Winery Dogs and Sons Of Apollo, spoke in an interview with The Metal Podcast about the photo he posted on New Year's Eve with Dream Theater guitarist John Petrucci.
“John and I reconnected a year or two ago, and we’ve been together a lot, had dinner together with our families. The reality is that he and I have been friends since our first week of college, in September 1985, so that friendship has been going on for 33 years. Our families are friends, our wives and children are all friends. We grew up together and that will never go away.
After I left Dream Theater, there were a few years of drama and nonsense, but the reality is that you put all that aside…John and I will always be friends and family. As I said, we’ve seen each other a lot in the last year, but we never made it public, never posted any pictures. We never talked about it…we were together on New Year’s Eve and his family was at my house and we were just feeling love. And it was something like, ‘You know what…What a great message to start the year with. Can’t we get along? Give peace a chance.’ And we decided to post the picture just to put some smiles on people’s faces.”
Portnoy has been replaced by Mike Mangini.
Dream Theater will enter the studio to record a new album in May. Read more here.
