In a livestream on Modern Drummer , drummers Mike Portnoy (co-founder of Dream Theater ) and Charlie Benante ( Anthrax ) spoke about the tragic death of Joey Jordison , which was reported last Tuesday, the 27th.

During the conversation, Portnoy revealed that he received the news from Benante and that the hardest part was having to talk about what happened with his son, Max , who considered Jordison his "greatest drumming hero" and even received gifts from his idol on one occasion. Mike also recalled the moment he called Joey and asked for advice after being asked to go on tour with Avenged Sevenfold .

According to Portnoy, the two were on the phone for an hour and Joey Jordison was very “encouraging,” urging his colleague to accept the opportunity and giving advice on what to expect, even financially (transcription via Ultimate Guitar ). “He was always a really cool guy, always so caring and welcoming, and we kind of lost touch in the last eight years, after he left Slipknot ,” said Portnoy.

"It's really sad now, I regret not having contacted him more often over the last few years to see how he was doing. It's one of those situations where you only regret it when it's too late, so it serves as a lesson because we always kind of think that people are going to be here forever," she added.

“I always hoped for the day when Joey would come back to do something with Slipknot, I always thought there would be another chapter along the road. Unfortunately, now that’s never going to happen, which is very sad. You really need to enjoy what you have while you have it,” Portnoy concluded.

Joey Jordison died at age 46 from causes that have not yet been disclosed, causing a great commotion in the music world and prompting tributes from various rock stars.
