Mike Portnoy is on tour with Sons Of Apollo.

In an interview with Über Röck TV , Mike Portnoy ( Sons Of Apollo, The Winery Dogs , ex- Dream Theater ) spoke about what it's like to be considered one of the best rock drummers in the world by so many people. "I prefer the word 'favorite'," he replied. "I don't think there is a best drummer."

“Whenever I see these polls or anything else, it’s flattering to win them and all that, but music isn’t a sport or a competition,” he continued. “So I prefer the word ‘favorite.’ It’s nice when someone says you’re their ‘favorite’ drummer, that’s fine, because it’s subjective. Anyway, it’s flattering. I don’t think I’m the best – I know I’m not the best – but it’s nice to be the favorite.”

Speaking about his favorite drummers, Portnoy said, “I don’t have one, I have several. I mean, some of my heroes are: John Bonham, Keith Moon, Neil Peart, Ringo Starr, Terry Bozzio, Bill Bruford …the list goes on.”

Portnoy is currently touring Europe with Sons Of Apollo. The band's debut album, Psychotic Symphony , was released in October 2017 by InsideOut Music.
