In an interview with RockMap, drummer Mike Portnoy spoke about being considered among the greatest drummers of all time in various Rock and Metal publications. Check out his statement:
“All the awards, for me, are very flattering, but also very intimidating because they put an expectation on me. I don't consider myself a great drummer. I consider myself just a music fan who is a very passionate artist, and the drums happen to be my instrument. But every time I win one of these awards, it's good, but I almost feel like 'No! No!' I don't want people to think I'm a great drummer because I'm just a kid playing drums, I love music. I don't even like doing live drum solos; for me it's like 'Ehhh'. I'm not very interested.”
In the interview, Portnoy lists his favorite drummers, citing, among others, Keith Moon, John Bonham, Ringo Starr, Neil Peart, Lars Ulrich, Dave Lombardo, and others.
