Mike Portnoy , drummer for Dream Theater , revealed that he almost played with Nickelback at a show.
He told the story in a YouTube video for Drumeo, a program for drummers. Portnoy explained ( via Blabbermouth ): “I got a call from Nickelback in the spring of 2022. Their drummer [ Daniel Adair ], I think, was having surgery and they invited me to do a show with them. And I said, 'Yeah, that would be a fun show.'”
“I was ready to do this show with Nickelback – it was for a festival [in Vancouver, Canada] – and the festival ended up being canceled. But I was close to doing a show with Nickelback.”
The musician admits he doesn't know much about the band: "I don't listen to the radio, so I don't know any Nickelback songs."
In the video, Mike Portnoy is asked to play Nickelback's "Burn It To The Ground," but he didn't know the song, and the host mentions that the track wasn't on the show's setlist. The drummer responded, "My daughter and my wife said, 'You're going to know every single one of these songs,' and I was like, 'I've never heard any of these songs.'"
