Mike Mangini talks about his departure from Dream Theater

The drummer had been in Dream Theater for thirteen years

Mike Mangini , former drummer of Dream Theater, commented on his departure from the band, which was announced last week. The decision also marked the return of one of the group's founders, Mike Portnoy .

In an interview with The Mistress Carrie Podcast , the musician said ( via Blabbermouth ): “A decision was made that I understood. That’s all. Because when I heard the decision, I understood. I tried to explain that I understood the parameters of it being a musical thing. Anyway, it’s as simple as that.”

He continued: “And I’m telling you, I was like, ‘Okay, I get it.’ The situation made sense to me when I heard that – I don’t know, I guess I just walked out and thought, ‘Oh, this is an original band member coming back to a band. Oh, I get it. Okay, I get it now.’ And that’s it. I mean, that’s literally it.”

"I was in the band for 13 years. It was an unbelievable experience," he concluded.
