Mike Mangini , former drummer of Dream Theater, commented on his departure from the band, which was announced last week. The decision also marked the return of one of the group's founders, Mike Portnoy .

In an interview with The Mistress Carrie Podcast , the musician said ( via Blabbermouth ): “A decision was made that I understood. That’s all. Because when I heard the decision, I understood. I tried to explain that I understood the parameters of it being a musical thing. Anyway, it’s as simple as that.”

He continued: “And I’m telling you, I was like, ‘Okay, I get it.’ The situation made sense to me when I heard that – I don’t know, I guess I just walked out and thought, ‘Oh, this is an original band member coming back to a band. Oh, I get it. Okay, I get it now.’ And that’s it. I mean, that’s literally it.”

"I was in the band for 13 years. It was an unbelievable experience," he concluded.

Mangini's departure from Dream Theater

Following Mike Mangini's departure from the band, the musician reiterated that he understood Dream Theater's decision and that his "main role in keeping our live show running cohesively every night was an intense and rewarding experience."

Furthermore, the drummer is working on his first solo album, Invisible Signs , which will be released later this month, on the 11th. Two songs from the record have already been released, "Freak Of Nature" and "Not Drowning".
