Mick Mars has released his first single since retiring from Mötley Crüe . The new track is called “Loyal to the Lie” and is part of the album The Other Side of Mars , scheduled for release on February 23, 2024 by 1313 LLC – the guitarist's own label – in partnership with MRI.
Speaking about the new project, the musician commented: “I wanted to do something that sounded grand and wicked. People will hear my timbre, my sound. I am who I am. Nobody else could do it. And like everyone else, I have a limited number of years left. So, I'm going to try everything I can so that I can do various things. When it comes to my playing style, there's the Mötley side and the Mars side. In any case, I always have a very clear vision of what I want to do.”
Mars is joined by Michael Wagener for the album's production, and in the studio are keyboardist and guitarist Paul Taylor ( Winger /ex- Alice Cooper) , drummer Ray Luzier ( Korn ), vocalists Brion Gamboa (on two songs) and Jacob Bunton , and bassist Chris Collier — who is also credited with mixing and mastering.
Mötley Crüe without Mick Mars
According to Mars, his bandmates kicked him out in a "unilateral decision," apparently ignoring the agreement in which the musician "could still record in the studio and do limited performances." In 2022, Mick Mars retired from touring due to health issues.
In March of this year, Nikki Sixx spoke about Mötley Crüe's future plans and the possibility of touring until 2031. “We just finished those four songs for The Dirt . We’re pretty isolated at the moment. But we have these conversations beyond 2023, what would 2024 look like in terms of touring for us? Regarding new music, I think that always comes about when the band is getting along. And we get along really well now, we have a lot of fun. We spend time together, we go out to dinner,” he said at the time. Read more here .
