Mick Jagger is one of the greatest rock 'n' roll icons of all time. At 80 years old, the frontman remains active and in top form, with a recently released album alongside The Rolling Stones . And in his view, the greatest rock band today is Maneskin .
Jagger's praise for the Eurovision winners came during a recent interview with the Italian newspaper Corriere Della Serra . In the conversation, the artist recalled the show in which Maneskin was the opening act , in November 2021, when they had a "wonderful response from the audience". "Today it surprises me that the biggest rock band in the world is Italian. [It's] those same Maneskin who opened a show on their tour in Las Vegas two years ago: strange, isn't it?", he said.
The only surprise in Maneskin's status as the greatest representatives of rock today, according to Mick Jagger, is the band's country of origin. "Italy has a fantastic musical tradition, but it's not right for a rock band," he explained. "They are the band of today's twenty-year-olds, and we would all expect that somewhere there would be an English or American group," he said.
This isn't the first time Mick Jagger has praised new names in music. In 2022, Jagger said that younger artists like Machine Gun Kelly and Yungblud make him think that "there's still a little life in rock 'n' roll".
