Although more traditional rock fans may turn their noses up at some of the younger voices, Mick Jagger disagrees with this behavior.
In an interview with Swiss radio station P4 , the Rolling Stones commented on the current state of mainstream rock and mentioned two popular names among young people – including the controversial Machine Gun Kelly .
“Within rock you need energy and we haven’t had many new rock singers. Now there are a few,” said Jagger (via The Independent ). “We have Yungblud and Machine Gun Kelly. This kind of post-punk attitude makes me think there’s still a bit of life in rock and roll.”
While Gun Kelly is already well-known in the rock and metal community – whether for his feuds with Corey Taylor or his attempts to fit in – much of the path he now treads was paved by the young singer Yungblud, 10 years his junior.
Yungblud is from England, just like Mick Jagger, and must have caught Rolling Stone's attention both because of the geographical proximity and the loyal fan base he has built up over the years with his music that blends alternative rock with emo, post-punk, and elements of hip-hop.
Despite targeting his music towards a younger audience, the singer also proved his knowledge of the classics by covering "Life on Mars?" as a tribute to David Bowie and inviting Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne to participate in the music video for his most recent single, "The Funeral".
