Michael Schenker at Wacken Open Air
Slash , guitarist for Guns N' Roses , joined guitarist Michael Schenker on stage at the
Wacken Open Air in Wacken, Germany, last Thursday, the 31st.
The duo, accompanied by the Michael Schenker Group, played the classic "Mother Mary," a track from UFO's 1975 album Force It – a period when Michael Schenker was the band's guitarist.
Slash participated in the studio version of "Mother Mary," recorded for Schenker's album My Years With UFO . Produced by Schenker and Michael Voss , the album was released in September 2024 by earMUSIC, and also marked the 50th anniversary of Schenker's era with UFO, which lasted from 1972 to 1978.
Vocalist Erik Grönwall expressed his gratitude via a Facebook :
“Thank you to everyone who enjoyed the show with us, and a huge thank you to the Wacken team for taking such good care of us. One of the highlights for me? When Slash came on stage. I couldn't believe I was playing with these two legends, Michael Schenker and Slash.”
"I don't think I've ever been as present as I was at that moment! What an honor. I even asked our monitor to turn up the guitar volume; I needed to hear every note those masters were playing."
