Michael Kiske , vocalist of Helloween , spent two decades away from the band he joined at just 18 years old. In 2017, the group surprised everyone by announcing the return of the singer and Kai Hansen to join the band's current lineup.

In an interview with The Wikimetal Happy Hour , the singer spoke about the emotions of leaving and returning. “It was something we didn’t know what it would be like at the beginning, we had to experience it. We were all a little surprised by the energy we created with the audience,” he recalled. “It was an experience I had practically forgotten, I was out of the scene for so long, far from being part of a band like this, I almost forgot what the feeling was like. It’s incredible, and it’s also something you can’t project, you know?”

Even outside the band, Kiske continued to collaborate with Hansen. “We never had any problems, my main falling out was with Michael Weikath at that time, and he kind of took everyone to his side,” he explained. “And I wanted to leave. Subconsciously, it wasn’t rational. When I remember, I was throwing bombs everywhere. I needed that time, those years that passed. It wasn’t easy, but it was good for me.”

For many years after the split, the singer didn't believe in a reunion – much less a new album. " Andi Deris talked about it many years before in interviews, that he would love to do something like that, and I said, 'That's never going to happen,'" Kiske confessed.
