Metallica the soundtrack for a new Disney production is something that perhaps no one thought they needed until now.
According to Collider , the band is working with film composer James Newton Howard to transform "Nothing Else Matters" into an orchestral version, so that it can become part of the film Jungle Cruise , starring Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson and Emily Blunt , scheduled for release in 2021.
“This really goes back to [Disney production president] Sean Bailey , who’s a longtime rock fan and is one of the friendliest, most generous, warm, and welcoming people you’ll find in the music world,” drummer Lars Ulrich in an interview. “I think he’s always been a Metallica fan, and we started getting to know each other well. My wife and I are big Disney fans, so there’s a great friendship there, and he was always looking for the right combination where there was a way for Metallica to contribute to some project of theirs. This was the right fit, with Sean leading the charge, and with James Newton Howard and his track record, and what he did.”
Sharing about the new version, Ulrich says, “It’s an interesting form, because it’s kind of – and I don’t want to reveal too much – but it’s a very unusual form, as it’s a sort of arrangement of ‘Nothing Else Matters’ that we’re playing. We wrote the song, but he took the song and rearranged it to fit something specific in the film – and obviously, I’m not going to reveal any of that – but then we took his version of it. I think that’s all that needs to be said.”
Metallica's affinity for classical music is nothing new, as reinforced in the band's most recent release, S&M2 .
