Trigger warning: our beloved band is playing live shows: Metallica surprised fans in San Francisco, the band's hometown, by announcing a surprise concert in the city last Thursday night, the 16th.

In a statement on the band's social media, Metallica wrote, “Hey! I'm going to tell you a little secret… We're playing tonight at The Independent in downtown San Francisco. Grab a $20 bill and get your butt to the box office right now! Proof of vaccination is required to get a wristband and they're going fast. One ticket per person, cash only!”

The lucky audience of around 400 people witnessed an intimate show by the band with a star-studded setlist of 16 songs featuring the band's greatest hits. Check out the full setlist below.

Metallica will soon return to San Francisco to celebrate their 40th anniversary, performing for fan club members on December 17th and 19th at the Chase Center. Then, on November 23rd and 26th, in Louisville, Kentucky, the band will perform at the Louder Than Life festival. Who wouldn't want to be there?
