It's no secret to metal fans that the album St. Anger is the most hated of Metallica . This opinion is also confirmed among music critics, which is why the album made it onto Rolling Stone .
Ranked at number 43 on the list, the album is cited as the result of a low point for the band, due to James Hetfield , Jason Newsted 's departure , and the changes in the industry with the arrival of the Napster platform at the time.
According to Rolling Stone's editorial staff, Metallica's eighth studio album is a "deep disappointment," despite the creative process resulting in the documentary Some Kind of Monster , considered "stellar" by the magazine.
Despite acknowledging the problematic drumming sound of Lars Ulrich on the album, Rolling Stone describes even bigger problems with St. Anger : "The songs lack focus and feel unfinished, and the lyrics, straight out of rehab, could have been better thought out," they explained.
