The show will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the album S&M, Symphony & Metallica
The legendary band Metallica , led by James Hetfield , announced on their official website that the commemorative concert to mark the 20th anniversary of the album S&M, Symphony & Metallica , will be recorded and broadcast in cinemas worldwide. This information comes from the record label Universal Music.
Titled S&M², the recording of the performance will have a single screening on October 9th and will be shown in over three thousand cinemas across different cities and countries. Ticket sales for the film begin on August 7th.
In April 1999, Metallica and the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra played a historic concert at the Berkeley Community Theatre in California, which resulted in a live CD and DVD recording of the performance, titled S&M.
On September 6th and 8th, 2019, the group will take the stage at Chase Center Arena in San Francisco, United States, for a special concert with the city's Symphony Orchestra, in which they will present several tracks from the 1999 show, as well as symphonic versions of new songs released by the band since then.
The announcement of the 20th anniversary show for S&M was made in March on Metallica's social media, and both dates are sold out.
The live album, released after the 1999 performance, earned numerous Gold and Platinum certifications worldwide, including in Brazil. This album features two previously unreleased tracks, "Minus Human" and "No Leaf Clover," as well as numerous Metallica hits. In 2001, their performance of "The Call Of Ktulu" won a Grammy Award for Best Rock Instrumental Performance.
Metallica is currently touring several European countries, including Romania, Austria, the Czech Republic, and Poland, among others. In October, the band will perform seven shows in Australia and one in New Zealand.
