Metallica launches second annual marching band competition

Last year, nearly 500 schools participated in the Metallica Marching Band Competition

The competition, which featured marching bands from nearly 500 colleges and schools across the United States in 2023, will return in 2024. On June 6th, Metallica announced, via social media , the opening of registrations for the second Metallica Marching Band Competition .

The first edition featured exciting, dynamic, and unique performances of Metallica's music, not to mention the competition for prizes valued at nearly US$200,000. Check out the announcement of the latest winners below.

Now, competing bands will have three times the chance to win. Each category – Upper (Division 1), Upper (Divisions 2 and 3), High School (Large), High School (Medium), and High School (Small) – will this year have first, second, and third place prizes, with the first place winners in each category selected by the members of Metallica themselves. However, the public will also vote, determining an additional winner.

Registration is now open and can be viewed here . However, only residents of the United States may participate. The results are expected to be announced in early January 2025. Winners will receive instruments and equipment for their schools' music programs, provided by Metallica in partnership with the Sweetwater store.
