It's no secret that the year of the COVID-19 pandemic gave artists more time than in their entire careers, and they're using this period to create more music. And for Metallica, it was no different.
James Hetfield SiriusXM radio's Town Hall program that he understands how difficult the pandemic is for everyone, but clarifies that in his profession and that of the band members, you're either on the road or writing. In other words, the frontman, his bandmates, and most artists are using their time to create, and according to James, he loves it.
In an interview with NME , drummer Lars Ulrich discussed the technical difficulties of composing remotely, a method adopted by the band members during the pandemic, but with some methods returning to the "new normal," the band intends to reunite in person soon.
“For now, we’re in this [technological] bubble for a few weeks, and we’re eager to see if at some point this fall, we can return to another bubble where we’ll write, play, and maybe even record – so we’re looking forward to seeing the possibilities of that,” says the drummer.
When asked about the release date of the new material being soon, Ulrich states that it certainly won't be soon enough for what the artists and fans would like. But one thing is certain: a new Metallica album is officially in the works.
