The video was posted on Metallica's Instagram

Through their official Instagram account, Metallica released a mysterious video featuring the word "MONDAY" written in the band's logo font, specifically the same font used on their latest album, Hardwired... To Self-Destruct .

The image was posted twice this weekend, and in response to thousands of comments and questions, the band's official Instagram account responded:

"We are not retiring.".

In 2013 , the band had already used a similar method by choosing a specific date to make an announcement. On that occasion, drummer Lars Ulrich announced the date (October 8, 2013) in a press conference.

When asked what it would be, Lars joked, saying, "Lulu Part 2, just to annoy everyone ." This referred to the announcement that Metallica would be playing in Antarctica.
