Metallica , in partnership with the American , announced a campaign months ago to raise awareness among its fans about blood donation in the country.
Since then, fans have turned out in droves for blood donation drives, ready to help patients in need of intensive care.
Last Tuesday, May 3rd, the band reached a historic milestone. Metallica and their All Within My Hands foundation announced their 1,000th donation collected. This brings the total to over a thousand donations collected to date as part of a vital partnership with the American Red Cross.
The Red Cross's executive director of national partnerships, Darren Irby , commented on the campaign [transcript via Blabbermouth ]: “The Red Cross recognizes the impact this partnership has had on the lives of people in trauma situations and those facing cancer and chronic illnesses such as sickle cell anemia.”
“Not only are regular donors coming to these blood donation drives, but we’re also getting a lot of new donors who have never donated before — a real sign of how Metallica and All Within My Hands are inspiring people to give back across the country.”
The foundation of the band, All Within My Hands (AWMH), aims to ensure that hospital blood banks remain well-stocked, especially during the summer.
Dubbed Metallica x Red Cross Blood Drive , the event is taking place during the North American leg of the M72 Tour .
The campaign began on April 14th in Liverpool, New York and will conclude on June 23rd and 24th in Denver, Colorado. Participants will receive an exclusive, limited-edition campaign t-shirt.
