Metallica closed out 2021 with impressive streaming numbers. According to Spotify's Retrospective data shared by the band, their music garnered over 1 billion streams on that platform alone.

According to Ultimate Guitar , this is the third consecutive year that the band has surpassed the one billion stream mark, with 1.3 billion plays on Spotify, translating to more than 112 million hours of playback. The band's listeners are spread across 178 countries, almost completely covering the planet.

The band also shared that they were the most listened-to artist by one million users on the platform. “With all the ups and downs of 2021, one thing remained consistent: you listened to a lot of Metallica on Spotify! Just when we thought you couldn't listen anymore, you went and proved us wrong,” the group wrote on social media. “Honestly, we don't even know what to say. But we leave a huge THANK YOU, Metallica family – it seems quite appropriate.”

Recently, Metallica celebrated 40 years of their career with a special show in San Francisco, the band's hometown in the United States, featuring songs never played live before in the setlist. Relive it here .
