Kirk Hammett , guitarist for Metallica , let slip that some of the band's material is in the hands of producer Greg Fidelman . This brief comment has already sparked hopes for a new album, the much-anticipated successor to Hardwired… To Self-Destruct (2016).
During an interview with Ultimate Classic Rock to discuss his solo EP Portals , Hammett explained his choice of Bob Rock to work on this project instead of turning to his partner from recent Metallica projects.
“I didn’t want to bother Greg Fidelman because he was busy with all sorts of Metallica material. I really didn’t know who else to call,” he said. “I really didn’t have anyone else to call. Like I said, I would have loved for Greg to do it, but he was up to his neck with other Metallica commitments, so Bob was the next best guy.”
There are no details about the material in question. As Metal Injection , there is a possibility that Fidelman's work involves mixing new live albums or remastered versions of Load (1996) and Reload (1997) , but the dream of a new album from the band remains strong among fans.
